Job Summary

An Electronics Design Engineer is required to join an expert and dedicated team of engineers and technicians working in the Oil and Gas service sector on state of the art underwater control systems for the commercial diving and ROV industry.  The successful applicant will be a dedicated team player capable of carrying out a variety of project engineering roles within an engineering design and production environment.

Job Description

Fathom Systems manufactures a range of industry leading products for the commercial diving and ROV sectors of the Oil and Gas industry.  We are located in a modern facility at Portlethen Aberdeen and are in the process of expanding the engineering team.  The Fathom products include control system, communications and instrumentation equipment for the commercial diving sector and electro-hydraulic control systems and navigation equipment for the ROV market.  Systems use state of the art technologies to provide unique products and systems for this industry sector.

The successful applicant will be responsible for the following:
  •  Detailed circuit design in analogue, digital, video, audio, RF and instrumentation systems
  •  Preparing schematic diagrams and test documentation
  •  PCB layout including multi-layer, SMT, BGA & high-speed techniques
  •  Embedded firmware for implementation on microcontrollers (C language)
  •  Electro-mechanical design of sub-assemblies, integrating custom PCBs into products
  •  Design & product maintenance of DSP firmware
  •  Design & product maintenance of high-speed FPGA designs
  •  Working with project engineers and technicians to implement designs into products

The role will be predominantly based at the Fathom Systems HQ in Portlethen, but will also include occasional site work on Clients’ work-sites and diving vessels whilst alongside in port.

The applicant must have:
  •  A suitable electronics engineering qualification to Degree/HNC level or equivalent
  •  At least two years’ experience in an analogue electronic design function
  •  Experience in circuit design, PCB layout and embedded firmware
  •  Experience with schematic capture, PCB layout and AutoCAD 2D packages
  •  Good MS Office & IT skills
  •  Excellent housekeeping and organisational skills
  •  Good interpersonal skills and ability to deal with colleagues and customers

It would be advantageous if the applicant has:
  •  Experience with Altium Designer PCB Software
  •  Experience with audio & video designs
  •  Experience with real-time control systems
  •  Experience of FPGA & DSP technologies
  •  Experience in designing for EMC compliance
  •  Experience with Mentor Graphics PADS PCB layout package, XILINX tools & TI DSP development environments
  •  Experience in designing with PIC microcontrollers (including 24-bit processors).
  •  UK Driving Licence
